Abraham to defend IBF middleweight crown

Fri 29 May, 12:48 PM

BERLIN (AFP) - IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham of Germany will defend his title for the tenth time against compatriot Mahir Oral in Berlin on June 27.

Abraham, unbeaten in 29 fights with 23 KO's, has held the IBF belt since December 2005.

Oral, 29, has a record of 25 wins, two defeats and one draw, and has a world ranking of 30th.

Abraham was initially to have fought Dominican Giovanni Lorenzo as official challenger but the contest could not be formalised because of differences between the two sets of promoters.

  1. I think if Froch fights kerssler next and wins then calzaghe would come out of retirement to fight him.

  2. I agree Neil. Kessler is Froch's destiny and will be the only way to cement a legacy post Calzaghe. The only defence to Froch for fighting Bute is either...

    a) Kessler's got a mandatory defence against someone else

    b) To try to beat Calzaghe (in statistics anyway), he's trying to be the holder of all 4 World Title belts, starting with Bute. This will then make the Kessler fight a 2 World Title Belts holder v 2 World Title Belts holder contest. Calzaghe never held all 4 belts so I believe. But correct me if I am wrong.

    c) Kessler's injured

  3. yes xetenaier, your correct. But ithink Pavlik should have a rematch with hopkins, b4 he is seriously old!!

And you are right about froch , but what i dont understand is if he calls out calzaghe and thinks he can genuinly beat him, why not fight kessler. WHY BUTE? it would get him a hundred times closer to a calzaghe DREAM FIGHT.wb.

  4. As for Abraham v Pavlik, why would Pavlik want to fight in the infamous haunt of Germany with judges of no bias at all...if you're based in Germany, trained in Germany and sponsored and backed by Germany!! For a neutral venue...how about Cardiff?

From The Xentertainer, on Thu 4 Jun 3:12PM
  5. Froch v Hopkins could be quite good depending how much Froch hurts B.Hop in the first couple of rounds. If he hurts Hopkins, the fight will be turned into a horrible, ugly fight with Bernard trying to spoil Carl's fighting. If he takes the shots (a la Pavlik), he may actually fight on the front foot. And if he Hopkins done that to Calzaghe, he would have beaten him.

  6. froch shud either fight hopkins or kessler, no1 else.

  8. Abraham fights another 50/50 fighter that he will beat and stay champ. There is only one fight out there for him and thats Pavlik.

  9. NO, CALZAGHE DOESNT NEED 2 FIGHT FROCH. hE HAS TO FIGHT mayweather. decider. has to be done. at middleweight

  10. i think calzaghe is scared of froch after his prefromance against hopk and jones.

  11. Froch wants to fight Bute purely because he wants the glamour of World Title Unifications just as Calzaghe did. However, he's doing it the hard way by going to their backyards to fight, a la Taylor. Beating Bute will mean Kessler v Froch will be a fight to unify 4 belts in his division and something that I don't think Calzaghe did....but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Also, it means more revenue. As for Calzaghe v Dawson, forget it. Calzaghe would pound Dawson into next week. In fact, why not Froch v Dawson just to prove the point?! It's Calzaghe v Froch I want to see. But it will never happen just as Witter v Hatton won't happen either.

  12. FROCH WANTS 2 FIGHT BUTE. he'll neva take on kessler till he's well past it. froch is way too slow. calzaghe shoud come back and beat froch and dawson cus he hasnt really proved himself yet.
only agenst laccy and kessler. joe if u read this u have more to do mate.

  13. How about Froch coming down to Middleweight and stuffing them both?! Because he would. But Froch v Kessler is the fight we want if only to see if Froch really is as good as Calzaghe. Especially if he can KO Kessler! But why won't the promoters sort it out?!

  15. Abraham vs Pavlic? Perhaps Pavlic could also take heed of that advice and grow some balls and fight outside of the USA.

    From larner983, on Sun 31 May 12:20AM
  16. why not felix strum frist? then pavlik, then we'll see who is undisputed middleweight king!
