Premier League - Bayern deny Ribery bid

Eurosport - Fri, 29 May 08:44:00 2009

Bayern Munich have denied suggestions that they have received a £40 million bid from Chelsea for midfielder Franck Ribery.

Media reports claimed that the France international was the subject of an offer that would net him £115,000-a-week from the London club that finished third in the Premier League and could yet win the FA Cup.

"This story is completely untrue," Bayern media officer Markus Horwick told Deutsche Presseagentur: "Franck Ribery remains not for sale."

Former Marseille playmaker Ribery has been highly coveted by some of Europe's top clubs, including Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

After a disappointing season by Bayern standards, in which they were humiliated in Europe by Barca, sacked manager Juergen Klinsmann and ended the campaign trophyless, speculation has been rife that the 26-year-old may be tempted to end his two-year spell in the Bundesliga.

Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti, who is favourite to take the helm at Stamford Bridge this summer, has revealed recommending the player to Roman Abramovich during a meeting with the Chelsea owner.

But Bayern have reacted to reports of a bid with a firm denial.

Ribery scored nine goals in 23 league starts for Bayern last season, and netted another four in the Champions League.

  2. Why would Chelsea want Ribery, there already spoilt for area on both flanks, and with Joe Cole coming back - who in my opinion is just as good as Ribery - why buy Franck for an inflated price and then not play him every game, Chelsea need to sell Drogba and get a reliable forward, then get a suitable partner for John Terry rather than the unreliable Alex or injury prone Carvalho.

  4. My bad... but it was allyshand fault... MUFC won 3 carling cups in that period, not 2 as stated by allyshand. Which means, they are tied for total cups won in this comparison. Sorry.

  7. allyshand... good call... very interesting facts there... I assumed you calculated the period of 20 yrs from 1989 -2009, correct? 2009 being the last time MUFC were league champ. Base on that, let us make a comparison, i.e. LFC vs MUFC for the 20 yrs period they were conquering everything. The last time LFC won the league is 1990. So, lets do 1970 till 1990 for LFC. From 1970 till 1990, LFC won 11 league champ, 3 FA Cup, 4 League Cup, 4 European Cups Winner (CL) and 1 Cup Winners Cup. A total of 23 Cups compared to MUFC 22. But interestingly, during LFC conquering period, MUFC won only 4 FA cup, whereas during MUFC period, LFC won 3 FA Cup, 3 League Cup and 1 CL. I'm not starting any fight or whatever but this is just a comparison and anyone who think differently could state their case. BTW... I'm a LFC follower.

  8. Ribéry should match words to actions by going to Barça (if he decides to leave Bayern). He likes playing football and had expressed his admiration of Barça's style. He's a professional and so will not just test managers like CR7 does. He has studied all teams and knows his play style before seeing that he suits in a Barça outfit. We don't need defenders because we love our attacking system and Ribéry supports our doctrine. FCB has given real meaning to modern football. Let anyone who doubts this lifts his little finger

  9. he is coming to united if and when ronaldo leaves. also valencia. chelsea won't sign him they want roblnho, zhirkov and santa cruz. plus ribery just signed a huge deal with nike so it makes more sense to sign with united.

  10. Chelsea needs a winger but there is no place in the Barca midfield for him. Who are you gonna drop - Henry, Eto'o, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta...? I don't think so... He'll fit in wonderfully at ManUtd with their attacking style of play. Chelsea might just be too defensive for him. Just imagine what Ribery, Rooney and Ronaldo (if he's still there) as well as Tevez and Berbatov will be capable of... With Carrick, Fletcher and a fit-again Hargreaves behind them they might just give Barca a run for their money...

Ribery is good..but not good for 115,000 a week. Torres is way better than him and he is getten pay 90,000 a week. Toress is a 115,000 a week player. And ribery is a 90,000 a week player.
