Premier League - Schwarzer cool on Arsenal link

PA Sport - Sat, 29 May 10:50:00 2010

Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer expects to remain at Fulham despite speculation linking him with Arsenal.

Reports have claimed Arsene Wenger could move for the 37-year-old after a string of high-profile errors from Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski this season.

But Schwarzer, in South Africa preparing to represent Australia at the World Cup, is unaware of any approach.

"I haven't heard anything other than what's been said or written in the papers, so it's purely speculative at the moment," he told ABC Sport.

"I've got another year left on my contract at Fulham and I've really enjoyed my time at Fulham and I'm enjoying it and I see my future at the moment with Fulham.

"I don't see anything changing unless someone tells me otherwise."

  3. it sounds like were well in the market this year. thanks god ( Chamak done, on the list Joe Cole, Schwarzer, steven tailor, rolledega, some other french defender, a lyon midfield a german defender) but we might loose Cesc. but for another established 3-4 players well why not?

  4. no thanks, he's to old for a start, and i won't forget his almunia like howler in our last game of the season in a hurry, we don't want another butterfingers goalkeeper

  5. This is obviously not true....he is 37. Arsene dnt sign players in that age bracket.

  6. It would be great for this to happen, but as all us Arsenal fans know it won't happen, he isn't French, he's too old & he will go to another club after the world cup, all that Arsenal fans can hope for is either Green or hart sign, but will end up with what the club has got now or some unknown french keeper.
Its time for wenger too spend or time for him to go, because next season it'll be a struggle to qualify for ' Europa' let alone champions league!!

  9. #2 Hasn't been close? FA Cup semi final? Champions league final? Which btw is greater than European Cup final.

  10. Rafascrackingup @ comment 2 and 11, you are so dull to understand that Arsenal is a bigger football club than Fulham. i have great respect for any football club. just to remind your weak brain, Arsenal almost won the Champions league in 2006. and have always done well in the CL since it's inception. in the last 4 seasons have come close the Championship.
    Honours for Arsenal: Barclays Premier League : 13 (1931, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1938, 1948, 1953, 1971, 1989, 1991, 1998, 2002, 2004); Community Shield : 3 (2000, 2003, 2005); FA Cup : 10 (1930, 1936, 1950, 1971, 1979, 1993, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2005); UEFA Europa League : 1 (1970).
Honours for Fulham:Coca-Cola Football League One : 2 (1932, 1999); The Coca-Cola Football League Championship : 2 (1949, 2001) . so i am sure you can understand why any Fulham player would want to play for Arsenal without casting any form of aspersion.

  11. Arsenal or Fulham...No offense, but I think Fulham are going to find it hard to repeat their success this season. And Schwarzer deserves Champions League football. He is a great shot stopper and has helped Fulham and Australia alot. He single handedly put Australia through to Germany '06 with 2 amazing penalty saves and was a major factor in Fulham's success. Good luck to him and I hope Arsene finally decides to go with an experienced, non-french player.

  15. Schwarzers is a great keeper and he is for me one of the most underated keepers. He has kept cleansheets everywhere he has played and I think that he deserves a move to a champions league club after what he did in the europa league and what he has been doing in the premier league. A great Keeper! once he retires I don't know what the Socceroos are gonna do!! Hopefully he has a good world cup and we go far though right now it seems unlikely.

  20. I like the guy who asks why Schwarzer would move to Arsenal? No disrespect to Fulham they had a fantastic season including the cup run and Roy Hodgson is excellent. But they may wait another few years before that is repeated. I thought that Arsenal got closer this year up until the Barcelona game when we lost Gallas, Arshavin and Fabregas to injury. I know other clubs also had key players injured and I by no way use it as an excuse but I truly believe with a sound goalkeeper and a couple of defenders Arsenal can shore up the poor defensive errors and we all know how good they can be going forward. As for Schwarzer Europa league or the Champions league?
