Rhodes eyeing Trophy success

Sun 29 Jun, 05:15 PM

Joint Bradford chairman Julian Rhodes is hoping the League Two club can have a good run in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy this season. The Bantams were thrashed 5-1 by Doncaster in the first round of the competition last season and were fined by the Football League after being accused of fielding a weakened side.

However, after seeing the Wembley final contested between two League Two sides in MK Dons and Grimsby last season, Rhodes believes there is no reason why the Bantams cannot challenge this year.

He told the Telegraph & Argus: "We've been a bit unlucky with the draw in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in the past two seasons.

"But next season that's a tournament we want to do well in and we should have a squad that will be capable of doing that.

"The money receieved for going all the way to the final can go back into the team and help with the snowball effect we're looking for to take us back up the divisions."
