Norwich's out-of-favour midfielder Michael Spillane has been "working hard" this summer and is determined to prove manager Glenn Roeder wrong. The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, who made six appearances under Peter Grant last season and only two under Roeder, was among the group of players the new boss criticised when he was appointed in October 2007.
Spillane told the Norwich Evening News: "I always give 110%, and for someone to tell me I haven't been, it hurt a lot.
"I've been working hard over the break and putting the work in and I hope to be playing at the start of the season.
"It's a massive season for me. I'm going to come out of the blocks. I want to be playing the first game of the season and I want to be playing every game of the season. That's my goal. I'm not going to accept anything less. I just want to play."
Spillane, who has made 18 appearances in all since his senior debut in 2006, starts the final year of his City contract when the players return to training next Tuesday.
