Now Barca Tempt Adebayor

Sun 29 Jun, 10:09 AM

Emmanuel Adebayor has cast further doubt on his Arsenal future after revealing his interest in a move to Barcelona.

AC Milan are also pursuing the striker, who has given conflicting statements about his immediate future over recent days.

On Friday he insisted he would be staying with the Gunners before minutes later hinting he would push for a move to the San Siro in showdown talks with manager Arsene Wenger next week.

Yesterday, however, Wenger insisted he would not be meeting Adebayor - who scored 30 goals last season - having already held talks with him.

Now the 24-year-old has further muddied the waters by revealing Barca's interest which he would favour if the north London club do not meet his demands for a pay rise to a reported £120,000 a week

He told the News of the World: "Milan are a big club but the fact they are not playing in the Champions League next season is less of a challenge.

"Barcelona have made a good financial offer and there is also the chance to play alongside great players.

"Yes, I am still under contract to Arsenal but it's up to the directors to satisfy my demands or I'll leave.

"If my good form of last season has increased my value, my employers have to take account of that.

"I have to prepare for my retirement. Even if you are not scoring fine goals and you have money, you can enjoy a happy retirement.

"The time for preparing for that moment is now."

The former Monaco striker also believes he should be given parity with ex-team-mate Thierry Henry.

"People ask if I am asking for the same salary as Henry. That is not necessarily the question.

"But I am being considered a worthy replacement for Henry while not deserving his salary.

"The question lies on this level."

  4. In my own candid opinion i think Adebayor should be allowed to go. Pride usually goes before a fall. He will never be missed. Henry remain a legend for Arsenal and so no yardstick for comparism at all with Ade. Arsene, get the money, Hell you go Ade. Gunner for life. Semiu, Dublin.

  5. Just to put this in perspective: decent wage in Ade's homeland of Togo is about 4000 CFA Francs per week (or £4.83 - that's right, £4.83) and I would imagine that he is currently earning around £20-£25k at Arsenal, so only about 5,000 times more than he could expect at home (or about 35 times the average UK salary)! And people say footballers are greedy?!?!

I know, I know, market forces and all that, but if Ade is worried about his retirement, I would have thought that he could go back home and live like a king already, or stay in Europe and live quite comfortably on what he will have earnt in the next 6 or 8 years even if he never gets another pay rise again.

And what is all this 'good offer' stuff about? Surely unless Arsenal have given permission for Barca or AC to talk to Ade, any 'offer' made should be considered tapping-up and be reported to FIFA? And with 3 years on his contract and Arsene Wenger stating that he expects to see him back in training, that permission seems unlikely to have been given.

I just hope that Ade realises that this is Arsenal, not Chelsea, and if he thinks he can make outrageous salary demands and get them he is sadly mistaken. In the meantime, he's not making many friends....

  7. Hahaha, Adebayor is a joke! He seems to have learned a lot from Ronaldo.
He scored some goals, missed lot more...and all of a sudden he thinks he is irreplaceable, joke!

He never was a first choice striker anyways, he had a lot of luck to be where he is now.
Fu**ing *rick! Lets see how much goals youll score without good players feeding you the ball...

    Gunner for life!

  8. ade is twice the player henry is. henry can do well in england bc the english suck at soccer. torres even said they have the worst players on defense. henry couldn't do it at juve and neither can he at barca. speed no skill is what he has. never played at good game for France either.

  13. I say let him go, yeah he had a good season but really if he was any where near henrys class he would of scored at least 10 more , yeah he scored 30 goals but he also missed 30 open goals and in those big games when you need him to score he didnt, 6 goals where against derby the worst team in premier league history, if he wants to sit on bench at barcelona let him! if we are going to sell him we shud swap him back for henry if anything

  18. If he wants to leave let him go. We do not need players who are not 100% for the team and who are only in it for the money. If he thinks that he should receive the same wage as Henry did then he is deluded, he is not in the same class!
