Barcelona president Joan Laporta said at the weekend that Eto'o had received a "stratospheric" offer from a foreign club, later identified as Manchester City, who are ready to pay 30 million euros to Barca plus 10 million a year in salary.
But Catalan sporting dailies Sport and Mundo Deportivo said Eto'o, whose contract with Barca ends in 2010, is demanding a "transfer bonus" of 15 million euros, something the Spanish club will not accept.
The player's agent, Josep Maria Mesalles, called a news conference for Tuesday to clarify the situation surrounding Eto'o, who could now stay on at the Spanish and European champions, said Mundo Deportivo.
Laporta has publicly said he wants the 28-year-old, the club's top scorer last season, to remain.
But the Cameroonian has not been offered an extension to his contract, and Spanish media said the Catalan club would prefer to sell him in order to buy other players, such as Valencia striker David Villa.

It's possible that he's doing it on purpose to screw up to deal so he can stay at Barca.
To all who are saying that Eto'o is greedy, perhaps you need to look beyond the money issue. To me it makes no sense that a club would like to sell a player at the top of his game and in the prime of his sporting career. It disheartens me that there was talk of (or still is) selling Eto's to Inter as part of an exchange for Ibrahimovic (Eto'o plus several million Euros). Is Ibrahimovic really better than Eto’o? Eto'o essentially won the champions league for Barca - now they want to give him off plus some millions of Euros in exchange for a player whose team got nowhere in the Champions league. 103 goals in 5 seasons. To me making these demands for Eto'o is the only way or the only tool he has for salvaging his dignity, which is being undermined severely by his club. I cannot help but think that if they are not considering the stats, perhaps they are looking at other criteria to value Eto'o and other players when comparing them. And in my opinion, that other criterion is the color of one’s skin. This sounds highly plausible and irrefutable given Spain's racism track record. I admire your love for Barca. I am a Barca fan myself but have choosen to relent my support for the club. Before you dismiss Eto'os offer think of what Barca is upto or recent statements made by Barca's president regarding Eto'o, who claimed that Eto'o can leave Barca because he has been offered a huge sum by City. As president, you dont want to lose a player, not of Eto'os caliber. This just indicates that Barca wants him to leave the club and that is insulting for a player who has given his best to the club. I suspect the best way for the club to have treated Eto'o was to allow him make a determination as to when and how to leave Barca. Some of this white people are very greedy as well abd dont have the interest of a black man at heart. I encourage Eto'o to ask for even more.
getachew44! the first time Eto became African Player of the year was 2003, and then 2004. Eto'o joined barca in 2004, which in insense is that eto'o was way too good even before he joined barca and he deserves the very best after all he has done for the club. scoring in every final of the champs league is something that has helped barca win 2 champs league in a period of 5 years. without eto'o, what had barca won? he came in with his goal grabbing talent and barca wins stuff so after u want to throw him away, what do you expect? he is happy? no way, he has cntributed to the team just like the others have, so he deserves first RESPECT, and then a better DEAL.so if he wants to walk away free, then thats cool. After giving all to Barca, makes me wonder if UNICEF shouldn't strip them of their sponsorship, thats just being inhuman. Last year they did the same thing and he delivered again, who gave them the required goeals to be Champions of Spain, who broke the deadlock after Man Utd had pressed them through the beginning of the Champions league finals without that his goal Barca were definitely having a rough time. Eto'o goal changed the rhythm of the game and United never recovered. So Barca shame on you. SHAME ON YOU BARCA. Why can't he be paid in the likes of Messi, after all he deserves it. Wow I was wrong about Barca being racist, Eto'o is realy the problem. What a looser he is. I can't believe he is doing this to Barca. He is demanding 15m euros in order to leave to man city.
