Premier League - City make huge Eto'o offer

Eurosport - Mon, 29 Jun 06:51:00 2009

Samuel Eto'o could be on his way to Manchester City after Barcelona president Joan Laporta revealed the Premier League club had made the striker a "stratospheric offer".

Speculation has been rife about where Eto'o will be next season as, with his contract set to expire next summer, Barca were keen to either tie him to a new deal or cash in on the Cameroon striker.

Reports suggest the Catalan giants have accepted a 30 million euro bid from City and Laporta believes the temptation of a mega salary would prove too much for Eto'o.

"Eto'o has a stratospheric offer from City, which would convert him into the best paid player in the world," he told Catalan radio station iCat FM. "It's starting to become clear that he has this monster offer. He wants to stay but an offer like this is very difficult to refuse. If Eto'o accepts this stratospheric offer we will have to bring in someone."

Eto'o contributed 36 goals last season as Barca claimed an unprecedented Primera Division, Copa del Rey and Champions League treble.

Should the 28-year-old leave the Nou Camp, Barca would likely step up their efforts to land Spain and Valencia striker David Villa.

  1. Oh please Ian. Whateva with the no one will resect them @#$%. So how did Man U win their titles. DId they develop Ronaldo, Rooney, Ferdinard, Berbertov, Nani Teves and Vidic? Or did they go buy these guys like everyone else did?
I mean of the top 4 teams, nThey all went out and bught supersars, and City is trying to do the same. And enough already with the Six strikers talk. I mean Most of the old guys were there last year and didn't play so why would they now. We will have 5 frwards if everyone signs the dotted lines. Robihno, Eto'o, Tevez, Cruz and Bellamy. 3 start probably, Tevez Robinho, Eto. Cruz, and Bellamy will get in as subs and fill in during injury. Only Eto and cruz are out and out strikers, the rest are fowards who can play wide. Once this is done we start bringing in defenders! Lescott, Maicon anotheer CD and we should be good to go for the season

  3. Lets face it people, City will be a force in time to come. I'm a BLUE and can remember playing Wrexham, Grimsby, Oxford and all not too long ago. Every team buys to try to improve so why all the negative stuff about us. Are the big 4 running scared? Sounds like. What's up with you people? Ever since dear old Jack at Blackburn bought the Premiership the benchmark was set. Don't knock us for doing what every single one of you would like to do - just enjoy when Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and The Spanish Waiter start whingeing

  4. So Man City will be Given,Bridge,Richards,Dunne,Ireland,Robinho,Santa Cruz,Bellamy,Jo,Tevez and Eto next season???????????? or do they somehow plan on keeping 6 strikers happy by massive rotation.Seems to me Man City are just going for big name players rather than filling the positions they need to strengthen. My bet is 7th for them as I feel the big 4 will still be the same and Spurs,Everton and Villa are more settled clubs/Teams.

I'm sick of the taunts about Utd being in debt... Get it right.. The Glazers are in debt.. idiots!!!! If they go under United don't... You seem to forget with or without the Glazers, United were worth nearly a billion in their own right... not even the mighty Real Madrid.. with their Spanih Government bail-outs were worth that!!!!!
Get real... Jealousy gets you nowhere!!!!!!

  8. Well its how it is......if they have the money why not spending it, I personally don't like Man city, but obviously it seem like they starting to build up, and for me is just better for the premier league as more teams will be fighting for the title if not for the champions league spot, hopefully Arsenal wont lose that. Come on Arsenal!!!!!

  9. never a dull moment with city. why oh why would you spend on eto'o when you have robinho, cruz, and possibly tevez. you can only field so many forwards and the moment one of the, presumably four, has to sit out it will cause a stir. city have money, but are lacking foresight.

  10. This @#$% is a bit like trying to get into an 'Old Boys' club, you can almost hear the club secretary refusing to let us in, "Old money only, no new upstarts allowed!!" A bit rich (no pun intended) when Real can spend 80 million on 'Glass Ankles' and we're moaned at for spending 32.5 million. Of course City are going to offer high wages to try and attract players, it's how you progress to the next level and while some will refuse the offers others will sign on the dotted line. As for winning the Premiership (cries of 'heresy' and 'burn them') that's not on the agenda, a top 6 finish is though.

  11. Comment 213 you contradict yourself.

You say they have 'unlimited money' which is almost literally the case, however you go on to say 'they can't sustain such high spending'. Even with unlimited money? They probably make enough per day to pay for 10 Samuel eto's.

  12. I just got a feeling that somewhere down the line all this mega spending is going to bight some clubs hard, its the honeymoon period at the moment but if the champs league trophy isnt won in 3 years the money plug will be pulled, Chelsea must be getting close to that position Roman wants that cup and if they dont produce he will make sure his Russian club do, take and good look at Leeds and also count how many recent prem clubs are with them in div1, overspending and no trophies = big @#$%.

  15. so many bitter people on here.

Nobody has moaned about the elite clubs spending all the money they have for years.
I think a lot of anxiety creping into the so-called Sky4 teams now, soon enough someone is going to lose their Champions League spot, watch feathers fly then!!
Good on you City, go for it.

just shows players prefer money to trophies the arabs might have unlimited money but as a football club it cant sustain the spending and the big wages if they dont win anything it will be like having a house with negative equity MUFC FOREVER

  18. man united fans are so envious of city for all the they got.hey united scums do you really think wayne the monkey boy rooney will lift you up this season?i doubt it!!!!!! yah you got money because you sold ronaldo and how bout that debt? hahahahahaha

From theonebehindthewheel, on Sun 28 Jun 10:58PM
  19. The big problem city will face is that they will be in a no win situation. If they do not win the Premiership (2nd will not be good enough) people will say they have spent all that money and still cannot win the title. If they do win it, no one will respect their achievements as they will have simply bought success on a scale no has ever done before. It's as simple as that.
