Arsenal are rumoured to be preparing a bid for Lyon striker Karim Benzema in an audacious move that could see the London club poach him from under arch rivals Manchester United's nose.

A reported £30 million has been set aside to procure the services of the 21-year-old Frenchman.

However the deal relies heavily on Wenger agreeing to sell Emmanuel Adebayor to Italian heavyweights Milan, something which would further shake up the transfer market.

The Gunners also have to contend with Real madrid, who have reportedly already made a 32m euro bid for Benzema.

The news has sparked debate among Eurosport message board users with some of the comments shown below.

Leaw - "I think it would be a great deal .Benzema would be the perfect man to replace Adebayor, and I think he would do just great with Arsenal."

  1. I need him to compliment Ashavin and Van Persi. Arsenal­ needs a dare-devil in front of goal like Benzima and­ not a weakline like Adebayo. Let Wenger package the­ deal with an offload of Ade.

  6. Every single player that goes to Arsenal­ improves..thats a fact.
    So if Arsen buys these all­ ready established players look what might­ happen?
    Imagin if Benzema came to Arsenal all we would­ need is another defender & holding midfield player­ and we will be sorted for next season.
    It wont­ guarantee titles but it will certainly be closer then­ last season, more goals and more clean sheets.

  10. Wenger would not have that amount of cash to spend­ .
    Arsenal is well known for it's low budget­ signings .

    Although trading Adebayor with cash for­ Benzema would be a nice deal .
    But i don't think­ Benzema will choose Arsenal over ManUtd .
    Considering­ the glory ManUtd had achieve for the past seasons .

    To­ be honest , this is just an illusion .
    An imaginary bid­ .

  13. If I were AW, I would sell Adebayor, Gallas and­ Silvestre and improve Arsenal's bid for Benzema­ since there is competition from other big clubs. I­ would then buy a defender and defensive midfielder with­ the left over money.

  16. I hear so many people say go out and buy a proven name­ for big money, but why? Was Viera a proven name, Henry,­ Fabregas? the list is endless of players Wenger has­ brought into the club who have excelled. Why spend big,­ when you can get a decent player and mould him into a­ world class one, reap the results of that and when it­ is time for the player to leave, make a profit on the­ sale. Wenger is the best in the business at this, and­ long may he continue to operate this policy, lets not­ fall into the trap of Leeds Utd and many other clubs­ and sacrifice the long term stability of our great club­ by focusing on short term gains.
