Wimbledon - Wimbledon Power Rankings

Eurosport - Mon, 29 Jun 07:14:00 2009

Sunday's rest day gives us the chance to take another look at who's looking good for the men's and women's crowns at the All England Club next weekend.

TENNIS Andy Murray Wimbledon - 0

Few would have expected Lleyton Hewitt, Ivo Karlovic and Tomas Berdych to be featuring highly on the men's side, likewise with Sabine Lisicki among the ladies.

But a series of upsets has opened up some parts of the draw, and several of the underdogs have a good shot at a run to the semis.

However, the presence of Roger Federer and Andy Murray, and the Williams sisters, still looms very large.

MEN

1. (1) Roger Federer - in control and on course to reclaim his crown

2. (2) Andy Murray - another straight sets win for the home hero

3. (3) Andy Roddick - came through a tough fight

4. (4) Novak Djokovic - has looked solid but bigger tests await

5. (NR) Lleyton Hewitt - former champ is fighting like his life depends on it

6. (NR) Ivo Karlovic - no one wants to face the huge serving Croat

7. (NR) Tomas Berdych - finally looks ready to fulfill his Slam potential

8. (7) Tommy Haas - survived a two-day epic to reach round four

WOMEN

1. (1) Venus Williams - can she make it three in a row?

2. (2) Serena Williams - has been totally in control so far

3. (7) Victoria Azarenka - desperate for her first Major

4. (6) Caroline Wozniacki - thoroughly comfortable on the London lawns

5. (5) Dinara Safina - far from convincing and struggling with serve

6. (NR) Amelie Mauresmo - former champ is rediscovering her old form

7. (NR) Sabine Lisicki - new star has the game to go deep

8. (NR) Elena Dementieva - making solid progress and gaining confidence

(pre-tournament ranking in brackets)

  4. Oh shut up already all you people beating on the Nigerian guy. As a part Nigerian I can't help but be amazed about how incredibly prejudiced you all are. There are over 150 million Nigerians; so a couple of them are idiots who go around scamming people, but to assume that we all are is silly. That would be like assuming all Brits are semi-illiterate crackheads who go around stabbing each other and who can't even manage to speak their pwn language. And we know that isn't true..or do we?
Keep to the tennis and leave people's nationalities out of it.
    On that note, go Roger!

  9. Federer will win. Murray is good Murray is English, come on Murray. But, be serious, Federer is the best tennis player in the world. Not Nadal.

And I hope Azarenka gets knocked out it is too loud!!

  10. Why can't rdarby spell properly; punctuate a sentence; resist being racist towards his scots neighbours; respect the best tennis player we've had for 73 years; not ask f*cking stupid questions?

  19. Comment hidden due to its low rating. Show

If there were a gay Wimbledon, I would like to volunteer in a Corporal Jones kind of way to take on two tasks. First I'd sort out the locker room and the towels. Then I'd like to do all the seeding. First Rafael Nadal, then Andy, then Radek Stepanek (Crazy name! Crazy guy!) but not Amelie Mauresmo. Everybody thinks they have girlfriends but that's just cover, following Max's advice. They're all as gay as nine bob notes!
