Pawel Abbott revealed the prospect of being reunited with Dave Penney persuaded him to join Oldham on a two-year contract.
The 27-year-old striker spent last season with Penney at Darlington, where he netted 17 goals in 32 starts, making a further 13 appearances from the bench.
Abbott told the club's official website: "The fact that I've worked with the manager before was one of the main reasons behind me coming here.
"He's a no-nonsense character which suits me well and I like the training sessions he and Martin Gray put together.
"I know what the manager is all about and I know I and the other players will enjoy working with him."
Abbott is Penney's fifth signing of the summer, joining Rob Purdie, Jonathan Worthington, Joe Jacobson and Sean Gregan.
