Baggies Cox bid accepted

Mon 29 Jun, 03:30 PM

Swindon have accepted a bid from West Brom for Simon Cox and have handed the Championship club permission to speak to the prolific striker.

The battle for Cox's signature has been fierce this summer with a handful of bids being rejected, while the likes of Celtic have also been linked with the 22-year-old. But it appears West Brom have won the race with a bid believed to be in the region of £2million including add-ons.

Cox, who scored 32 goals in all competitions last season, initially caught the eye of former Baggies boss Tony Mowbray before his switch north of the border to Parkhead.

But Cox has remained on their radar, although with Albion set to name their replacement this week, the move is not expected to go through until it has been verified by the new man in charge at The Hawthorns.

Robins chairman Andrew Fitton told the Swindon Advertiser: "It is fair to say that we have given West Brom permission to speak to the player. I'm not prepared to be drawn on the fee, but I will say that it is not disappointing.

"We have earmarked some of the money to strengthen the squad, and you should assume that we are already on the case in finding a replacement."
