County miss out on Gannon

Mon 29 Jun, 02:58 PM

Jim Melrose has expressed his disappointment after his hopes of bringing Jim Gannon back to Stockport were dashed following his appointment as Motherwell manager.

Cash-strapped County went into administration at the end of April with crippling debts, but hope to be taken over by the Melrose consortium shortly.

Melrose wanted to tempt Gannon back to Edgeley Park after he was made redundant earlier in the summer but the County legend has instead accepted an offer to manage Motherwell and will be officially unveiled on Tuesday.

Melrose said: "We are disappointed.

"We spoke with Jim, but with the uncertain situation at Stockport we were not in a position to make him a firm offer.

"But we wish him and Motherwell all the very best for the new season. I'm sure he'll do well there."

  1. BS!
Absolutely no reason at all why Jim Gannon couldn't have been under contract with the Melrose group before they completed the takeover of County IF THEY SERIOUSLY WANTED HIM. So why didn't they want him? Too smart to hoodwink? Too much County blue and white blood running through his veins to quietly turn a blind eye to wrongdoing by people in the club? That is Jim Gannon's track record, apart from being a very, very good manager, coach and talent recogniser.
Two HUGE mistakes by the Melrose mob. Letting JG slip away from Stockport County and also claiming that it wasn't possible to have Jim under contract to them without first having complete control of the club.
Add to that their statement blaming Sale Sharks for the failure to have the takeover done when all Cheshire Sports asked for is verification that the Melrose group has the money they claim to have.
This lot look more dodgy the longer this goes on and you have to question too how the administraters were so easily satisfied with the Melrose group's credentials and chose them in preference to the alternative groups?
If you believe in a god then please say a prayer for our Stockport County.
