De Vries sees light

Dorus De Vries is confident of signing a new deal with Swansea just weeks after his time with the club looked to be over.

The 28-year-old Dutch goalkeeper was locked in talks with the Swans' former manager Roberto Martinez, but negotiations appeared to reach a stalemate as Martinez was linked with a whole host of replacements.

But with Paolo Sousa now in place at the Liberty Stadium following Martinez's move to Wigan, De Vries is preparing to reopen discussions.

"I've always said that I wanted to stay at Swansea because I know the set-up has been magnificent under Roberto Martinez." De Vries told the BBC. "Things have now changed at Swansea and let's hope things will go in a positive way.

"I think the chairman has made a good step by appointing Paulo Sousa as the new manager. Paulo said he would like to work with me as the goalkeeper at Swansea and everything was positive."

Swansea signed De Vries from Dunfermline in the summer on 2007.
