Furman leaves Rangers

Mon, 29 Jun 22:06:05 2009

South African youngster Dean Furman has left Rangers for Oldham.

The 21-year-old midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the Latics, after making just one first-team appearance as a substitute in three years at Ibrox.

Furman had been offered an extended stay with the Clydesdale Bank Premier League champions after impressing during a 33-match loan spell with Bradford last season.

He told his club's official website, www.rangers.premiumtv.co.uk: "I was offered a new contract by Rangers but I didn't think I was going to get as much football as I'd have liked.

"The chance to join Oldham came up and straight away I got a good feel for the club. I had my first day training with them today (Monday) and it was great.

"I feel it's time for me to move on because I enjoyed getting first-team football at Bradford last season and I was to keep progressing.

"I am confident I will be able to do that now. I've got no guarantees I'll be playing every week and it's up to me to prove I'm good enough for this team.

"That's a challenge I'm looking forward to and hopefully over the next couple of years I can give my all and establish myself more."

  1. Boy was never given a chance.I would rather watch a Rangers side with young guys that are hungry than a side with Dailly,Weir, etc.

  3. #49 wattie has never been a big fan of the youth at Ibrox, same as his 1st term in charge, but what can we do????? apart from fleck who has broken through????,Now I`ve nothing against big wattie, but he needs to listen to durrant re youth players coz we are needin players to come through from the youth, due to the financial situation at I

  4. Disappointed by this as furman is going to be a great player. Was hoping he would start to make first team appearances this season. Have no problem with the player moving as he prob wouldn't get many opportunities. This is a real opportunity missed by Rangers and Murray Park was supposed to be about players coming through so Rangers wouldn't need to spend as much in transfer market. But the players coming through compared with the ones who have left is not good reading. McCormack, Steven Mclean, Burke, Smith, Brian Mclean, furman, the 2 young french players plg signed and recieving little or no money for these players. Hutton, possibly Adam and McGregor being the only one we get money for. The only way to get money back for players is to play them. Not good business sense! Time to change that as there is no point to Murray park otherwise. Remember Murray Park was the final straw that put us in debt.

  6. Never said he didnt have cash to spend Stuart, his problem is going to be convincing any1 to join his septic revolution, the 3 firemen have hardly a stunning track record at their previous clubs, even fortune who has worked under mowgli hasnt exactly jumped at the chance to join him again has he???To me that speaks volumes of what he thinks of his management style, christ you no even been linked to any1 in any kind of concrete manner, enjoy your silence Stuart

  7. Metz...News is that Lawell is in Paris talking with Fortune agent as we speak....also I dont think much can be said or done by any team until tomorrow when all the contracts expire etc....Here a wee fact for u metz Since 2004 out of 28 players there is one left...Shaun Maloney (And he left and came back) point being all new managment teams want there own players...Mowbray would not have taken the job if there was no cash to spend

  20. Pt30...Metz...They need to pull through and will and I hope Mr Murray sells so that he can get back to where he belongs and build what he was going to build years ago in AYR...However....Being in £27.1 million in debt, injured players, releasing players, owner wants to sell up and cant...winning the league 1 out of the last four years and dont forget Rangers spent more money than Celtic in tranfer fees during that period...its bordering on the Celtic shambles back pre "the bunnet" days
