Scunthorpe chairman Steve Wharton has revealed that manager Nigel Adkins will be given a club record budget as he bids to stabilise the Iron in the Championship.
The Glanford Park outfit will kick off the new season in the second tier, 15 months after they were relegated from it following a brave attempt to stay up on a shoestring budget.
And although Wharton admits the purse given to Adkins will still be small in comparison to some, it will be more than the Lincolnshire club have ever spent during the off-season.
"Nigel has been allocated by far the highest playing budget in the history of this club," Wharton told his club's official website.
"Even so we do have to be realistic that it is still likely to be the lowest budget in the Championship and we will be competing against a number of clubs who have the resources to fund budgets five times higher than we can safely afford."
Meanwhile, the Iron's local derby with Doncaster on September 26 will now kick-off at noon.
