West Brom have reportedly launched a bid for Charlton defender Madjid Bougherra, but they face stiff competition to land the African star.Real Betis were leading the chase for the Algerian, but now the highly-rated 25-year-old will have the chance to move to the Premier League.
Newly promoted West Brom are keen on the stopper, who joined in January 2007 from Sheffield Wednesday, and have made a firm offer.
However, there is rival interest with Scottish giants Rangers, Middlesbrough and Sunderland all thought to be considering making late bids.
Charlton have already confirmed that they are ready to let Bougherra leave The Valley and are now locked in talks with The Baggies.
