Fenty: New-boys can boost defence

Tue 29 Jul, 12:45 PM

Grimsby chairman John Fenty is hoping the signings of Robbie Stockdale, Matt Heywood and Richard Hope will boost the Mariners' defence. After a bottom-half finish in League Two last term, and after leaking 66 goals, Fenty is only too aware that Town have to address their frailties in order to move on and up.

He told the club's official website: "With four key players already signed this season, three of them defenders, we hope to reduce the sloppy goal concession from last season.

"As much as we would like to bring in an additional striker, the manager certainly will not bring anyone in just for the sake of it. Besides, with a little confidence what we have already got in the building may well start delivering goals.

"Martin Butler has really settled in now. If we had just signed him I am sure that would be encouragement to the fans given his pedigree and goal-scoring record."
