Thigh blow for Hearts hopeful

Tue 29 Jul, 04:45 PM

Danish striker Mike Tullberg's hopes of earning a Hearts contract have suffered a blow after he tore a thigh muscle. The Reggina forward is looking for a new club after a frustrating season in Italy following his move from Aarhus last summer.

He played a quarter of Friday night's 1-0 defeat by Kaiserslautern and was looking to impress in the last match of the Edinburgh club's pre-season tour of Germany, which takes place tonight against Bundesliga 2 side Wiesbaden.

"Mike has been very unlucky," Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo told the Evening News.

"After the game against Kaiserslautern he told us he had a muscle problem and we have discovered a small rupture.

"I don't think he will be able to train for three weeks. He would like to show his ability because he does not want to sit on the bench at Reggina.

"We would like to take him but we must talk about this with the doctors. We are not in a hurry, we are staying positive.

"I think he can help us if he is fit."

Hearts will be without several other players for tonight's friendly.

Lee Wallace and Gary Glen (both calf) are injured, while prospective signing David Obua and striker Christian Nade are not yet able to take part in a game after recovering from injury.

Meanwhile, Hearts are expected to return to Scotland as scheduled on Wednesday after fears over the effects of an air traffic controller strike in Germany were allayed.
