Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe is baffled why former club Spurs are cashing in on their biggest assets this summer.
It has been a summer of change for the White Hart Lane outfit with the likes of Giovani Dos Santos and Luka Modric arriving, while Robbie Keane has joined Pascal Chimbonda and Paul Robinson out of the exit door.
Defoe was forced to leave Spurs after failing to break up the partnership between Dimitar Berbatov and Keane up front - and cannot understand why the club are now opting to cash in on their star players.
Asked if there are tough times ahead for Spurs, Defoe said: "I think so. It's strange because obviously I have left the club and if they want to get rid of Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane, then it's going to be difficult for the club.
"I feel sorry for the fans because I can't understand why a club will get rid of their best players. That's football and I suppose there are times when players have got the opportunity to move to a bigger club.
"It's obviously a tough time for Spurs. It's a good club and I still speak to a lot of the players there. They are all my friends.
"I enjoyed my time there but you know for each player there is a time when you need to move on. I was there for three-and-a-half years.
"I enjoyed my time, I scored a lot of goals and the fans were good to me. No matter what, I will still have a piece of that club inside me."

On the Woodgate comment, I know he hit the "big" goal but still is no one else worried he wont play half the games?
Looks like the squad is rebuilding. Purging the old talent and bringing in some young guns. I think they should have kept Jermain if they were going to do this, and why did they bring in Woodgate?!?!?!? He's so injury prone. Excited to see more of Bale this season though. Young Midfield looks very promising too. Agree with the Robinson transfer, way to0 many mistakes.

gomez is rubbish. he flapped more times than a drowning bird against norwich. robinson is much better keeper. i do hope robbo's move works out for him. i do hope i'm proven wrong by gomez but i don't think i will be.
i totally agree, i cant understand as why we got rid of defoe, and kept bent?? then suddenly we have got rid of keane and berbs is on his way out, hope ramos knows what he is doing, i just dont beleive you can replace that talent. And stop all the jewish remarks calling them yids, as non jewish spurs fan i find it really offensive, and yahoo should not be printing this anti semetic @#$%!!
and you now have gomes one of the best keepers in the world
what are you complaining about spurs have got great talent and modric and dos santos could both become the best player in the prem so why are you complaining
by the way defoe is just pissed off thatr he had to leave and now it looks like he could have been given a chance
we are as confused as jermain, whatever it is they are doing at spurs had better work quickly because if we have another bad start to the season like last year, ramos and levy are gonna get some serious stick.
