Hughes Selects Transfer Targets

Tue 29 Jul, 12:09 PM

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has drawn up his transfer wish-list.

Hughes had an extensive chat with Blues executive chairman Garry Cook in Germany at the weekend and came up with the names he feels City need to become a force on the domestic and European stage.

Chelsea's Tal Ben Haim is thought to be one of the players City are close to signing, although with skipper Richard Dunne and England star Micah Richards established in central defence, Hughes may be looking at the Israeli, who would cost around £5million, to fill a full-back slot.

Having enjoyed such a superb season under Hughes at Blackburn last year, it is little surprise Roque Santa Cruz is among those City are interested in.

With Brazilian striker Jo currently on Olympic duty and Benjani sidelined by a thigh problem, City are short of firepower, although that will not affect their progression in the UEFA Cup this week when they take on EB/Streymur at Barnsley's Oakwell Stadium.

"We took a chance to make an assessment of where we are and what we need to do next," Cook told the Manchester City website.

"My job is to support Mark in where he wants to go."
