Jerzy Dudek claims a move to Real Madrid would represent a "dream come true" for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.
Madrid's pursuit of Alonso is set to come to a head this week with Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez keen for the Spain international's future to be cleared up before his squad re-assembles on Thursday following a three-day break.
Real number two Dudek told goal.com: "He is Spanish and all the Spanish guys want to play for Real Madrid. This is a dream come true for them and Xabi knows that he's not the only one."
He added: "I spoke to him (Alonso) just before the holidays.
"He is a very nice lad and he knows what is the best for him. But he cannot do anything without Benitez. So I don't know (what will happen), but he is a good player without question, one of the best midfielders in the world.
Alonso, who has not handed in a formal transfer request at Anfield, travelled with his Liverpool team-mates on the club's tour of the Far East last week but speculation over his future intensified on Monday when he was photographed at Madrid airport.
As it transpired, Alonso had arrived in Spain from Singapore in the morning before heading to Madrid for an internal flight to spend time with his wife and family at his home in San Sebastian.
While Alonso's absence from Liverpool was viewed as a sign of his impending departure by some, it later emerged that all of Liverpool's players had been given three days off after returning from the Far East.
The squad is due back at Melwood on Thursday, when they will begin preparations for Sunday's trip to play Espanyol in a friendly at the Barcelona-based club's new stadium.

bebington123, typical bitter blue. As for that plum Angelos, exactly what is the BPL anyway? Never heard of it.
I suppose we could buy Martinez he's quite agood passer and still young, He's also much quicker and better in the air.
I think we should up the price for alonso even more and not let him go, just to make sure he honours his contract, we must not surrender any more players otherwise our league position is gonna slip away like arsenal!!
Angelos, what the f'uck is the BPL?
who smashed real madrid in the champions league last year 0-1 and 4-0? Liverpool! all the way
Most players today grew up dreaming of Real Madrid. English league was banned from European competition for a while. As a kid growing up in foreign countries, these guys don't care about clubs they were NOT able to watch. They only dream about clubs that win trophies. Even though Real Madrid hasnt done well the last couple of yrs, they have a big enough name to attract players. Also, growing up in Spain mean that Xabi Alonso was surrounded by people who say good things about Spanish League all his life. That could had shape his view of RM.
This season is a motherf**ker for BPL Champions League contestants... Ronaldo and Tevez leave United.. Arbeloa and Dossena and now Alonso are signalling for an out. Terry's future in Chelsea is uncertain.. Toure is almost out. and Adebayor is out.
But the champion of BPL is always be United!
JEVUS
‘ @ ronaldo in 10 years time - did you pick that name cause you will also be BENT in 10 years ???????? typical man utd ediat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ’
The idea is either Ronaldo as a wino or Ladyboy if he stays at Madrid and the photos of him with Premiership or Champions League if he returns. But yes, you do have a point. You never know do you? With that wee badger creature about. I found this old photo of you with your ‘girlfriend’. Surely you could have picked a better one than this. The resolution doesn’t do it justice.
You look happy anyway. I wish you well in the future.
real madrid may have ronaldo kaka etc but wer are the defnders an ball winners???? who is gonna play wen they dont av the ball? a team needs balance an real dont have an never do
real madrid are not bigger than liverpool! stupid @#$%! overhyped showoffs who cant defend! YNWA!!!
There should be not a single doubt that playing for Real Madrid is more glorious, meaningful and important than playing for Liverpool. Move to the best team in the history of football (team of the century) motivates anyone of us even those with heart problems or who never played sports. Liverpool might be big, but Real is much much bigger.
StuartB you are just worried at the fact that liverpool cud be about to lose one of there best players
bye bye alonso better off on the bench in madrid anyway than another potless season at anfield
Dudek should keep his big trap shut. He's just bitter coz Rafa didnt think he was good enough to prolong his career at Anfield... what does he know? Keeping warming the Real Madrid bench Jerzy and keep your big nose out of our business!
At this climax, we are provoked. Alonso must stay with us and we will do that even if we will bence him through out the season.I am vexed at all this.this scenario is much more than Ronaldo's in 2008
tis is ankit...a life long LFC fan 4rm india...n tis is my first post...well i'm a big fan of alonso since his sociadad dayz....i'd b really bad 2 see him go...bt if he doesn't wanna b here v should cash him n buy a quality winger/striker(silva/villa)...
tink hez don enough 2 b a legend 8 anfield....
