Premier League - Ronaldo wins UEFA award

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been named UEFA's European club footballer of the year after scoring 42 goals last season including eight in the Champions League.

FOOTBALL 2007-2008 Champions League Manchester United Cristiano Ronaldo - 0

The award was made during the draw for this year's group phase at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Ronaldo was also named as the forward of the year for helping United win the European Cup for the third time.

Three Chelsea players who were in the side beaten by United in the Moscow final in May, won awards.

John Terry was named as defender of the year, Petr Cech goalkeeper of the year and Frank Lampard midfielder of the year.

  6. Ferdinand was the best defender last season by far and­ of course RONALDO won the main award he is one of the­ best players the world has to offer and nobody could­ touch him last season. not sure if he can repeat it­ again this season but nobody compared to ronaldo last­ season.

  9. why do people keep complaining about chelsea spending­ so much nd having no impact, 4/5 seasons ago, chelsea­ wasnt regarded as a powerhouse in european football as­ they do now and its not our fault that you guys dont­ have money to spend. Ronaldo deserved his award anyway­ but i'll always prefer torres anyday, lampard? well­ he is good, Terry can partner with any defender well­ but ferdinand without vidic is @#$%, vidic is a better­ defender than ferdinand anyday. blues till i die.

  13. im a chelsea supporter and i think cech and terry­ deserve their awards. lampard im not so sure about.­ theres better midfielders. but cech is a fantastic­ goalkeeper even after all his injuries. and terry, all­ you people who say "hes a crybaby". you'd­ be bawling your eyes out if you had just caused your­ team to lose one of the biggest cups in club football.­ He is a good defender and theres no denying it.

  20. I wouldn't say better on a whole, Torres had a­ better scoring ratio, he didn't score as much but­ if he had played the same amount of games as Ronaldo he­ would've scored, but Ronaldo did aamaizly well­ seeing as he is a midfielder.
