WTA Tour - Jankovic wins China Open

World number two Jelena Jankovic won her second tour title of the year after thrashing fourth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia 6-3 6-2 at the China Open.

Jankovic, beaten by Kuznetsova in the quarter-finals of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo last week, was rarely troubled as the Russian world number seven slumped to her fifth final defeat this year.

"She does not really have a good record in the finals. She kind of has that problem in the back of her mind and it always helps when you are going to play (under such circumstances)," said Jankovic, who picked up her second tour title of the year.

After both players surrendered early service breaks, 23-year-old Serb Jankovic was the first to settle, closing out the first set in 32 minutes before steam-rolling the former US Open champion in the second.

Kuznetsova racked up 14 unforced errors in the first set alone and struggled all over the court.

"I was not moving to the ball, I was not doing things on the court... I couldn't let (Jankovic) show her good game because I was making all the mistakes," said the Russian.

The win moves Jankovic only 21 points shy of re-claiming the number one spot from Serena Williams, who beat her to take the US Open, and sets up a potential showdown with the American at the Stuttgart Grand Prix next week.

  1. ?think JJ really picked up her game today & Kuzi­ couldn't keep up with her, which was why she made­ so many unforced errors.
    But certainly the best player­ won & I'm really happy for her.
    As for Ana, she­ has done nothing since RG - almost similar to her­ coutryman Djokovic. We've heard so much about how­ he's "Now a Slam Winner" and he­ hasn't managed to get to another Slam final since -­ he's been beaten by the 2 multi-slam winners. ­ Today he lost to a player who had never won a­ t'ment - but I love songa's style & soo­ pleased he has finally got that all important 1st title­ after so many injuries.

  3. I aint a true fan of Jalena but I believe this page is­ made specially for her,
    so lets stop talkin bout­ others and give her a big well done.
    She gotta long way­ ahead of her and definitely gonna pick up Grand Slams­ and titles
    along the way and this is just one of em.
    ­ I'ma true fan of the williams sisters but her final­ against serena was one of the best. She played­ brilliantly well, is just that when you up againet­ someone like serena, it aint that easy, but keep tryin­ nothin is impossible.
