Premier League - Paper Round: Tevez a true gent

Eurosport - Tue, 29 Sep 12:07:00 2009

Carlos Tevez says sorry for scoring a goal and the papers love it, while the climate change brigade could be banging on Burnley's door.

FOOTBALL 2009-2010 Premier League Manchester City Carlos Tevez - 0

Tevez may have had a tough start to life in England, what with the furore over his transfer to West Ham, but he has always appealed to football fans as they class him as a trier. And what a breath of fresh air it was to see him say sorry to West Ham's travelling fans for scoring the opening goal for Manchester City on Monday night.

The last home game at Eastlands witnessed Emmanuel Adebayor's shameful act and Tevez's gesture was not missed by Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola. "Carlos is a true gentleman and he showed that again," said the Italian. "My appreciation of him is for what he did and for the way he played."

Following the trouble between West Ham and Millwall recently, you can understand the authorities for being a little cautious when it comes to local derbies but don't tell that to Burnley fan Jason Taylor. The Clarets fan lives within hailing distance of Burnley's local rivals Blackburn's Ewood Park ground but restrictions on the movement of away fans means he has to travel to Turf Moor to get on a club coach to go to the game. Taylor will spend a total of four hours and cover fifty miles for a 50-yard journey. Just don't tell the climate change brigade, talk about ruining your carbon footprint!

'More clubs that Tiger Woods' is an overused term but in the case of Ade Akinbiyi it looks justified. He's signed for Notts County, who become the 12th English team to acquire his signature.

Edwin van der Sar is heading for the pension queue and Ben Foster is doing a passable impression of Fabien Barthez so it comes as no surprise that Sir Alex Ferguson is looking for a new keeper. Sporting's Rui Patricio is the first to stick his neck about the parapet and say he is the wanted man. "It is a fact Manchester United have been observing Rui Patricio," his agent is quoted as saying in the Star. You can bet good money there will be others on Fergie's radar.

Are Arsenal good enough to win the Premier League? Arsene Wenger clearly thinks so, but he is biased. He says he will not spend as he feels his squad is strong enough. "I have a squad strong enough to compete," he said. "People want me to buy strikers but where do I put them? If I buy now, I will not find better."

Newcastle are riding high in the Championship and there's no doubt there is talent on the books at St James' Park, but Chris Hughton is being plagued by injuries. Joey Barton is the latest to head for the treatment room, with an ankle injury expected to keep him out for three months.

The Mirror love a good transfer tale and they claim Fulham will ride to Nigel Reo-Coker's aid and rescue him from Aston Villa in January. Now there could well be some mileage in this story, but three months is a long time in football.

Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Emile Heskey and Wayne Rooney had better start looking over their shoulders. Only last week we had David Nugent saying he wants his England place back and now Sunderland's Darren Bent is singing from the same hymn sheet.

Alan Hansen infamously said 'you can't win anything with kids.' Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe seems to disagree as he is seeking permission from the parents of Jayden Stockley to miss an algebra lesson so the 15-year-old can turn out for the Cherries at Hereford tonight.

  7. Tevez is a traitor to all Man U fans, a mercenary. He went for the money and nothing else. Great player but it was all about the money.

  8. Tevez really belived that he would be loved by Man United fans after bad mouthing Alex Ferguson, telling lies about agreeing terms etc with United etc etc. He cost 47 Million!!! Not the 25 that was talked about.
He was then used as a puppet to taunt United, if he believed that he would still be loved then he is stupid and should feel at home with Man City FC NK along with the likes of Brain of Britain Stephen Ireland, Mr Personality Ade, Mr Happy Robinho etc etc

  9. You talk aload of s.hite Michael you really do. On the Owen matter, you're saying that liverpool fans have a good attitude and respect well that will change when Owen plays this season thats all I'm saying. Of course ye would applaud him when at Newcastle why wouldnt ye. Plus United fans are the most respectful to past players.

  10. Never apologize. It is a sign of weakness...John Wayne (the Duke). As for United goalkeeper...please go to see Utrecht keeper Vorm, he surely would be a bargain and seems a qualified keeper.

  11. foeyp so shouldn't spurs fans not give Sol Campbell abuse because even though he joined Arsenal he had given years of service at white hart lane?
Do you think Everton fans will cheer Lescott on his return because he was a great servant to the club?
Will Arsenal fans cheer Adebayor for scoring a load of goals for them?
Will Liverpool fans all be cheering Owen upon his return to Anfield?
    The answer is no.

  12. I really glad to find him well! real gent…yes!
when he left ManU,there r some ofers from big clubs like Liverpool,I heard. then he had chances to other big club. but he decided to go to“new commer”ManCity.coz of the rival between Liverpool n ManU. he always cares fans n ex-clubs. so i dnt surprise so much with this topic. This is Téves,we all loving!

From thekeysandscores, on Tue 29 Sep 11:50AM
  13. Ronaldo did the same when he scored for MU against Sporting Lisbon in CL two season ago.

From Amizaizul Izral, on Tue 29 Sep 11:45AM
  14. The Tevez situation is similar to the Sol Campbell one (after Spurs). He was at the club and was offered a contract, chose not to take it and instead gathered the hatred of the fans by joining main city rivals. Yet for some reason United fans are supposed to respect him because he ran around a lot, therfore "caring". B******

From james b, on Tue 29 Sep 11:45AM
  15. jpodacc Owen was in Newcastle before ManU and when Newcastle visitd us last season,Owen was warmly welcomed.Maybe you are mentioning this thinking ManU is our rival as such........Nooooo we aint thinking ManU as our rival so we will give Owen a befitting welcome.ManU is too small to be a Mighty Red rival as SAF thinks

From Michael, on Tue 29 Sep 11:43AM
  16. Tevez cannot be compared to other greats that have West Ham. When Defoe, Ince, Lampard etc. left they were all under contract at West ham and left to go on to better things. When Tevez's loan was up at West ham he knew that he was never gonna stay there so just kept his mouth shut, i'm pretty certain if he was still at West ham you would of heard something from him by now about wanting to leave to a bigger club.
The United situation is different because he was offered a contract by United and Several other clubs but chose to join one of main rivals and since leaving he has never stopped moaning, hence why Ronaldo has managed to leave with the blessing of United fans and Tevez hasn't. It's all about the manner in which you leave a club. hence why Hughes, Ronaldo, Beckham are still respected yet Ince, Tevez etc are not.

From james b, on Tue 29 Sep 11:42AM
  17. Hey Michael what kind of reaction will the mighty reds fans give Michael Owen at Anfield? Didnt think about that one did ya

  19. carlos you are a real gentleman , not like adebayor he a real loser and he will never be

From munir, on Tue 29 Sep 10:56AM
  20. For those of you who are looking for apologies, I don't know why Tevez did n't do it the second time. If he was sorry the first time why scoring the second one. I like Tevez not because he said sorry. There is nothing to apologise for in the first place.
