Premier League - Papers: City back in for Torres
After a relatively quiet period of transfer rumours, the papers are finally starting to ramp up the unsubstantiated rumours once again even though the reopening of the transfer window it still over three months away.
The South African, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has been consistently linked with Tottenham, but Serie A giants Juventus have now emerged as serious rivals for his signature according to the Daily Mail.
Pienaar is free to talk to foreign clubs from January 1 and could leave for free in the summer, but Juve, who have made a poor start to the season, may try and launch a bid in the winter to try and get him at the club as soon as possible.
Another club who have players coming to the end of their contracts is Aston Villa. Gerard Houllier has to make a quick assessment on £16 million worth of talent with Nigel Reo-Coker, Steve Sidwell and striker John Carew all in the final year of their contracts (Daily Mirror). Again, they can all start talking to foreign clubs in January if they fail to sign new deals.
Meanwhile, the MK Dons are reportedly keen to sign a full England international who is still only 22.
Unfortunately for Dons' fans it is rugby international Danny Cipriani, but the Milton Keynes club have been suitably impressed by the fly-half's skills with the round ball during a training spell at the club, that they might offer him a deal if he fails to make an impact at the Melbourne Rebels who he will play for in the Super 15 this season (Mail).
Some final transfer notes: Wolves defender Jelle van Damme has hinted he could leave the club as he is struggling to settle in England.
"My adjustment is difficult not sporting but socially," Van Damme he told Het Laatste Nieuws in his native Belgium.
"My wife is still in Belgium and is expecting our second child in November. Even if they would be here, I miss the life I had in Belgium."
A January loan move back to Anderlecht has been mooted.
