Four-times Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy has targeted his second hat-trick of victories in as many weeks at the season-opening UCI World Cup in Manchester.
Hoy, in his first competitive races since breaking his hip in February, romped to victory in the keirin and the sprint before teaming up with Jamie Staff and Jason Kenny to take team sprint gold at the National Championships at the Manchester Velodrome.
The 33-year-old Scot's extended absence raised question marks as to how he would fare upon his return but Hoy erased all doubt with his dominant display over his compatriots.
And Hoy believes he can repeat his performance this weekend as the road to London 2012 begins in earnest.
"I'm looking to repeat the performances I produced at the British Championships," said Hoy.
"You just don't know what your opponents are going to be like but it's going to take a good race to beat me.
"You have no idea how your opponents are going to go so you just go in there with the best condition you can possibly have and you try and perform at the highest level.
"I had a ten week lay-off and then basically I just had the summer to get my head down and train, which has really done me a lot of good.
"I think having that little break (has given me time to) physically recover and mentally has given me that extra bit of motivation when I got back into it.
"You often see athletes come back from injury in great form because they have that greater appreciation of the fact they're healthy and they can train. You put a little bit more into your training because of that."
Also in action in Manchester will be sprint rival Jason Kenny, who had to settle for sprint bronze and keirin silver at the National Championships.
The 23-year-old looks set to purely focus on the individual sprint, with Ross Edgar taking his place in the team sprint.
And while Kenny admits London 2012 will remain in the background of his thoughts, he insists the all-conquering British team must take one competition at a time.
"We can't think too much about the (2008) Olympics," added Kenny. "It was obviously a great performance and everything, but it was a year and a half ago.
"I know that and the team know that. We're only looking for the best team we've got right now.
"I'm quite a young rider, along with many others who are hoping to get to 2012.
"We're quite lucky that we've got quite a young team, so I still see plenty of room for improvement.
"I'm taking it one step at a time really, same as for the World Championships next year."
