Premier League - Pav has 'psychological problems'

PA Sport - Thu, 29 Oct 11:43:00 2009

Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko's performances on the pitch are being affected by "psychological problems", his agent has claimed.

The Russia forward failed to impress in the 2-0 Carling Cup win over Everton on Tuesday having been handed a rare start.

Agent Oleg Artemov said in the Sun: "His poor performance recently is not due to a lack of match practice but psychological problems. Of course, not getting into the starting line-up, sitting on the bench is not good for any player."

He added: "But Roman is much more affected by the feeling that the manager doesn't trust him and prefers to use other forwards."

Pavlyuchenko, who was brought to White Hart Lane by former manager Juande Ramos, is competing with Jermain Defoe, Robbie Keane and Peter Crouch for a place in the Spurs attack.

And Artemov hinted Pavlyuchenko may have to leave the club in search of more regular first-team football to avoid harming his international chances ahead of next summer's World Cup in South Africa.

He added: "The World Cup is next summer, to waste another half a year on the bench may be very bad for his international career."

  2. Right on #23! Clearly Pav needs a new agent. What a moron. His tactics are getting old and he seems to think he's leveraging his player's position when he is really doing just the opposite. I don't think anyone, including Harry, doubts Pav's ability. He's got to prove it though. Right now he's behind three veteran players who are producing for club and country. Certainly he has greater technical skill than Crouch but the big man always manages to find himself with opportunities in front of goal no matter how ugly. Roman's going to get some run on Saturday. We'll see...

  4. FUNNY as a striker myself i understand PAV's plight,i to played under a manager who belived in me and i thrived only to be replaced my another gaffer who's tactics i didnt agree with so he pushed younger strikers who have a certain click around the club as i move by myself and didnt follow there lead i knew they where not in the same class as me, in time i lost my confidence and stop training. up to today the president of the club and most fans tell me they want see me play and to come back out and train...i still have the desire to play but at my age (35) i have nothing to prove, most of the players i train with dont even know who clive allen is?
get my point! good luck PAV!!!!!!!

  5. ''but now you have guys like Bentley ad Pav wasting away when they should be in their prime..''

I'm a Spurs fan but I agree with you.

Anyways, I hope Pav don't go. harry would be an idiot to do that. And playing Crouch?? Psshh. I think everyone rates Pav higher than Crouch.

  9. Why buy so many players, If Arry wanted to get in "his own guys" then he should have sold the guys he won't use. Bad management IMO, although the squad looks deep, but now you have guys like Bentley ad Pav wasting away when they should be in their prime. That's Why Arsene is better than Redknapp, and that's why Arsenal is alway better than Spurs anyday. G4L!

  12. Anyone think Liverpool should try and bring him in for a small fee. 8 Million. I know he won't exactly get starting and he's not even starting ahead of Robbie who didn't start at liverpool. But still he's better than Voronin.

  17. If my agent says that and I"m considering a mid-season transfer, my agent just found a termination notice slipped under his office door when he gets in this morning. How much money did he just cost his player. Seriously, are all agents this stupid?

  18. This is a very good player like gio etc. Harry is not good at managing players and there was no need buying so many players after he took over. If he was a good manager he should have turned things around with the same squad Ramos had. I wish he leaves spurs and gio too and show Harry what they are worth.
