Alexander set for Clarets century

Thu, 29 Oct 09:37:57 2009

Burnley veteran Graham Alexander will chalk up his 100th league game for the Turf Moor club on Saturday at home to Hull.

The 38-year-old midfielder admits he is proud of what the club have achieved in recent seasons, but warns standards must improve if they want to stay in the top flight.

He says: These are the sort of milestones you start to get at this stage of your career. I have enjoyed we have achieved so far in the two years I have been at Burnley.

"But this is a tough division and concentration levels have to be 100 per cent all the time. This is what has let us down at times and we must improve."

  2. Come on you clarets, lets show the tigers how to play the game.
but please OC get that defence sorted, every game we have lost the back four have been a FLAT BACK FOUR. there is no covering of players and no one seems to mark a specific player but try to mark anyone.Bikey tries to go too far forward and cannot get back to cover,Mears gets turned so easy, and they all play the offside trap too often. but as shown with spuds and rafapool and piggan athletic when they are all flat along the back when a striker is anywhere near the line all he has had to do is run on when ball is kicked. The flat back four always lift their arms for offside and time and time again a goal.We are in the best division in the world and one lapse of concentration will be punished. the linesman and referees will always give the advantage when the back four are in a line and there is millimetres in a decision. which gives the strikers a bit of advantage. and thus we get a roasting.
yes every player in every league has certain off days but it is starting to get a bit monotonous when the opposing coach can see the mistakes being made and play on that.
I am not running the team down but if you have watched the games this season you will see where the problem lies. I know we do not the squad numbers in depth and I am worried about injuries and suspensions because when they come we will be struggling badly then.last season when it happened all the players in the squad filled in and played other positions and it worked well but this year we are playing against some of the best players -not only in this country but the world and one mistake will result in dire consequences for us.
The other problem being .....we are fast approaching the xmas-new year period and we all know what has happened in years gone by, almost every year in past ten years we tend to go on a losing spree for maybe 4-5 games, not counting the 19 without a win run under steve cotterill.
