Keane: Spurs squad stronger than Arsenal's

Tottenham captain Robbie Keane has kicked off the mind games ahead of this weekend's derby against Arsenal by insisting Harry Redknapp has the greater strength in depth in his squad.

Spurs are level points with their bitter rivals in the Barclays Premier League, having played a game more, but there is genuine hope at White Hart Lane about breaking into the top four.

The two clubs look similarly matched in terms of quality and ahead of the Emirates Stadium clash on Saturday, Keane believes the Spurs bench could give them the edge.

"You look at the two squads and we're definitely on a par," he said. "In the last four or five years Arsenal always managed to get ahead of us but if you look now it is even.

"It will be judged at the end of the season but if you look at the bench we have, it is probably a bit stronger than their bench.

"The mentality around the club in previous seasons was that we would be happy to finish fifth or qualify for the UEFA Cup, but there is a different feeling now. The players have the feeling that we want to get to the Champions League."

  6. Geez, Keano ought to know better than this as a veteran­ player. Spurs will certainly have an opportunity to­ prove his claim since they will be playing without­ Defoe, Lennon, Modric, & Woodgate. Seems senseless­ to make an inflammatory comment when you are already­ without your star players who also happen to have the­ most pace. We will surely miss their speed against the­ Arsenal youngsters. Even still, I have a feeling about­ this game Saturday. The gunners are soft. They are­ going to lose their share of games against the top­ clubs and will need to work very hard to maintain a­ position in the top 4.

  8. It's funny how it's only the spuds players who­ talk their game up to be something it isn't. Keane­ is well past his sell by date, Rafa knew it, so was­ happy to let him go.

    If anything his outburst has­ just handed Arsene with all the ammo he needs to fire­ up our players. I enjoy watching the spectical of the­ Spuds fans preying this will be the year they finally­ beat us in the league - where it matters - after­ suffering for the past many years. Long may this run­ continue and hope this heaps more misery upon many of­ my freinds who are supporters of the forgotten North­ London Club.

    At present I cannot see any other result­ than an Arsenal win, but as a famous spuds player used­ to say - "It's a funny old game!"

  10. It's not about the squad tho is it.... it's­ about the 1st team.... I'm a Spurs fan and as much­ as I would love to take any points off arsenal I just­ don't see it happening. COME ON YOU SPURS.... but­ we have to live off arsenals mistakes unfortunately..­ for now!!

  20. Funny that spurs fan, like!!!!!!!! PETER S, are even­ running thier peaks. Yet for the last years, Tottenham­ have been in arsenal shadow. When you talk of north­ London, the frist thing that comes to you mind is­ arsenal. And tottenham can't break in the top four­ for two reason, one they have no experinces that­ why,Dider Zokora left tottenham to go and play­ champion's league football else where.
