Megson infuriated by cup defeat

Thu, 29 Oct 10:07:57 2009

Bolton manager Gary Megson admitted his team did not perform in their 4-0 Carling Cup defeat to Chelsea but promised the Blues would face a more difficult encounter when the two teams meet again in the Barclays Premier League at the weekend.

Goals from Salomon Kalou, Florent Malouda, Deco and Didier Drogba ended Bolton's interest in the competition.

And a disappointed Megson said: "We didn't play as you need to play against the quality they have

"If you don't play at a tempo that might upset Chelsea, or go into challenges that might upset them, then you're not going to damage them.

"It was a poor performance from minute one. We needed to score the first goal, but we were never going to do that with the way we approached it.

I'm pleased to be playing them again on Saturday," Megson added. "We need to put on a performance. That was a bit of a stroll. Our team will be different, not just in personnel but in approach, and I hope we're a lot more wholehearted."

  1. I also live in London but my Dad has a season ticket for Bolton so we went down to see the match. The only thing i enjoyed about the match were the Bolton supporters who were hillarious..... 'Shoes off for the Wanderers!' .... never heard that one before, i was pissing myself :) Oh an the fun with the balls and cheering as it was passed around, then boos as the stewards lol. Great job by the supporters who made up for the appalling performance by Bolton!

Chelsea! Sort out the bloody seating in the Shed! When i finally got to sit down at half time i discovered i couldn't as there was no bloody leg room..... do think all you opponents supporters a 4 foot tall !?!

  3. I now live in london but the Bolton fans who made a effort to come down need a pat on the back as they never let themselves down from start to the end, which is more than I can say for Mugson and the most lack lustre pathetic display I have ever seen. Those fans last night put time money into that game; it's a pity that their loyalty was not rewarded. As a Bolton fan sat in the Mathew Harding stand you could hear the rest of our fans over the Chelsea fans. So why did the Bolton players and Mugson not give us all a display that we all deserve? You can see what the problem was, that as we cannot play wide we have gone to try to play up the middle again. As anybody knows u have to try and stretch a team like Chelsea
