Paynter hopes for first-team chance

Billy Paynter is hoping his and Charlie Austin's midweek exploits for Swindon's reserves have given manager Danny Wilson plenty of food for thought ahead of Saturday's trip to Tranmere.

The strike duo both grabbed a brace against Reading on Tuesday as the club's second string emerged from the Madejski Stadium with a more than impressive 4-1 triumph under their belts.

Paynter has had to make do with a substitutes' role of late while Austin has been somewhat of a revelation since arriving from Poole Town, albeit not yet starting a game from the off.

And with Swindon having failed to find the net in their last two games, and not more than once in nine of their last 10, Paynter hopes their form may have grabbed Wilson's attention.

"I've got a couple of goals and hopefully it's given the manager a decision to think about for Saturday, so I'm really pleased," he told the Swindon Advertiser. "That's all I could have done - put in a good shift and score a couple of goals.

"I think me and Charlie linked up quite well and caused their back four some problems. Not just me, but maybe me and Charlie have given him something to think about too because we've done really well as a partnership."
