Tipton apologises for red card

Macclesfield striker Matthew Tipton has apologised after he was needlessly sent off in the 2-2 draw against Dagenham.

Tipton was shown a second yellow two minutes from time for kicking the ball away and is now suspended for the visit of Bradford.

The former Oldham forward admits he should have known better.

He told the official website: "First and foremost I'd like to apologise to my team mates and the fans. I've played the game long enough now to know you don't kick the ball away. So I am disappointed in myself.

"But I still feel the referee could have shown a little discretion. In the heat of the battle I just knocked the ball. I don't think it actually wasted any time as their keeper was rushing out to take the free kick.

"I'll have to take this one on the chin but it will make me more determined to get back in the side and hopefully add a few more goals to the tally."
