Grant Wants Attacking Focus

Avram Grant wants his Chelsea side to continue their attacking ambitions when they return to Barclays Premier League action.

Chelsea demolished a poor Rosenborg side with a four-star showing in the Lerkendal Stadium on Wednesday night to earn a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League with one game still to play.

Two goals from Didier Drogba and a 40-yard free-kick from Brazilian defender Alex gave Chelsea a 3-0 interval lead, before Joe Cole completed the scoring in the 73rd minute.

Grant is more than happy with the Blues' progress since he replaced Jose Mourinho in September - and now wants them to replicate their European form in the domestic league.

Chelsea, at home to West Ham on Saturday, are only two points behind Manchester United and five behind leaders Arsenal .

"We played some good football and scored four goals," he pointed out.

"We had a lot of chances. But what is most important is that we qualified for the next round-one game before the end - after having dropped two points in the opening round.

"We want to play positive, attacking football - and I am very happy with what has happened. We win games; we progress - and play better from game to game.

"We are in the next round and in a good position in the league at home. I hope we can continue the process."

Grant will be hoping Chelsea can maintain their league form before losing Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Michael Essien and Mikel John Obi to the African Nations Cup in January.

Drogba, who returned from a knee injury sustained on international duty with the Ivory Coast, was in superb form to spearhead Chelsea's victory against the Norwegians.

"Didier is a very good striker. Even though we win without him, we miss him and want him to play," said Grant.

"But it is much easier for him when we play and pass the ball well and create chances. He knows how to score.

"I have two months until he goes. Four of our very important players will not be in the squad for a long time. It is not easy, but we cannot change it. We will have to do our best."

Grant still believes his side have all the credentials to win the biggest club competition of all - a prize that even eluded Mourinho during his time at the helm.

"It is a long way until May," he said.

"But Chelsea have never been in the final, and this is one of our targets - maybe the main one - because we want to be a big club.

"We want to get to the final, and I hope it is this year."
