Huddersfield manager Lee Clark praised his players for a job well done after they beat Port Vale 1-0 to move into the third round of the FA Cup.
A first-half goal by centre-back Nathan Clarke, who netted an overhead kick, proved sufficient as Town's well-marshalled defence repelled Vale after the break.
Clark said: "We knew it would be difficult and it was. We gave Port Vale a lot of respect and they deserved that.
"We have watched them and we knew their work ethic would be very good. The game unfolded as I expected and I'm very pleased the players showed enough to go through. Cup football is all about winning and this was a very good win."
Clark added: "Any striker would have been proud of Nathan's finish and that was an unexpected bonus. But we played well for most of the first-half and created several chances.
"Hopefully we can now land a draw that will get everyone at our club excited."
