Tour de France - Basso plans Giro and Tour assault
Italian Ivan Basso plans to ride next year's Giro d'Italia and Tour de France but has acknowledged he cannot win both the world's two biggest stage races in the same year.
"I believe at my age the Giro and Tour can be raced in the same year and you can be strong in both, but I don't think you can win both," the 34-year-old, who triumphed in the Giro in 2006 and 2010, told Italian radio on Monday.
"I've never won the Tour but a third win in the Giro is also an important aim."

U can win Giro, because Contador goes to TDF. TDF you never win
Come on Ivan... we all know you basicall have no chance to win the TDF unless you only focus on it.. winning another Giro would be excellent but you've won two already,, and a third can never cmpare to having a TDF on your Palmares... go for a tage in the Giro and try to fighr for the Tour please.
Too bad most of the field still not consider Giro as a top level GT as a TdF. Vuelta has a same problem. It's clear that Basso made this decision on a ground of TdF announcement route and his tiny chances to succeed with that much ITT km's. Giro is always good chance for him, but in his case I'll reconsider to make Giro-Vuelta double instead Giro-TdF...
No Schlecks. No Contador. No Evans= No top flight competition. Basso can take a grand tour in Italy and shoot for a stage in France with no pressure to succeed in the GC.
