Magyar's not off to JJB - Sturrock

Sat 29 Dec, 01:00 PM

Plymouth Argyle boss Paul Sturrock insists there has been no enquiry from Wigan or any other club about Hungary midfielder Peter Halmosi. The 28-year-old left-sided player has been a huge hit at Home Park this season and was recently linked with a move to Latics in the tabloid press.

Halmosi also told a Hungarian newspaper he would be interested in a move to the JJB Stadium, even though Steve Bruce's side are struggling in the Premier League.

However, Sturrock is keen to put an end to any speculation surrounding his star man and has reiterated his pledge to stop any of Argyle's best players leaving the club in January - unless the offer is "unbelievable".

Sturrock told the Evening Herald: "There has been no inquiry about Peter Halmosi from Wigan, or from any club.

"I would say it's very, very doubtful he will be leaving in the transfer window, unless an unbelievable Plymouth price offer comes riding over the horizon."

Halmosi, who became Argyle's record signing last summer when he joined permanently for £400,000 from Debrecen after a successful loan spell, is contracted to the Devon outfit until 2010.

Sturrock appreciates the Premier League is a huge draw for any player, but added: "He's a contracted player to Plymouth Argyle and, as I have said before, nobody will be leaving here unless it's a price we believe is right."

Meanwhile, another Hungarian will get the chance to join the Pilgrims ranks in January. Wolves defender Denes Rosa, 30, is set to head south for a trial having been out of favour at Molineux for several months.
