Premier League - Diop faces long injury absence

Portsmouth midfielder Papa Bouba Diop faces a long spell out after he picked up a knee injury in Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Arsenal.

The Senegal international suffered the injury after a tackle with Denilson and it is feared he has sustained medial ligament damage.

Richard Hughes was also forced off with a groin strain and Pompey manager Tony Adams fears the midfield duo face a spell on the sidelines.

"We will know more about Papa and Richard Hughes in the next 24 hours or so, but it doesn't look good at the moment," Adams told the Portsmouth News.

"I thought Papa was immense in there. He is so powerful, but it looks like he has done his medial ligament so that's not too great for us.

"And Richard Hughes has done his groin as well, but I'll get on with it."
