Motherwell are hoping to re-sign former Fir Park favourite Steven Hammell before the transfer window closes on Thursday.The 25-year-old left-back left Fir Park in 2006 to join Southend but Motherwell manager Mark McGhee has confirmed his interest in bringing Hammell back to the club.

Hammell made his Motherwell debut as an 18-year-old and made more than 200 appearances before heading to England.

McGhee told the Scottish Sun: "We are trying to do something as regards Stevie and hopefully we can get him back up the road.

"We are talking to him at the moment while we are also talking to one or two others.

"I'm looking to get something done."
