The Buick Invitational was over on Friday afternoon when Tiger Woods seized a four-stroke lead with a seven-under 65 on the South Course at Torrey Pines. The only remaining mystery was the margin of victory, which turned out to be eight strokes. He tops our US PGA Tour power rankings.
Previous rankings are listed in parentheses.
1. Tiger Woods (last ranking: 1) -- The scariest part of his dominance at Torrey Pines was that he actually said he has "holes" in his game.
2. Phil Mickelson (2) -- Given his lack of practice time, finishing sixth was respectable. The key will be how much he improves on the West Coast Swing.
3. Rory Sabbatini (5) -- After starting the season with a 74 and 75 at the Mercedes Championship, Sabbatini has posted 70 or better in nine of his last 10 rounds.
4. Justin Leonard (9) -- Give Leonard credit for responding to last week's collapse at the Hope, and a first-round 76 at Torrey, to notch another Top 10 finish.
5. Adam Scott (no ranking) -- His final-round 61 to win the Qatar Masters came against a formidable field which included Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia.
6. K.J. Choi (3) -- The missed cut at the Buick was his first since last year's U.S. Open. It may be another seven months before his next one.
7. Steve Stricker (4) -- Look for another Top 10 this week, which he has done in five of his last six starts.
8. Ryuji Imada (no ranking) -- In 11 rounds so far in 2008, Imada hasn't gone over par once.
9. Stephen Ames (6) -- The 77 on Friday was his first round over 72 since the last day of the Deutsche Bank in September.
10. D.J. Trahan (8) -- Not surprisingly, he followed the victory at the Hope with a missed cut at the Buick.
