Monsalve takes Langkawi lead
Jonathan Monsalve (Androni Giocattoli) has taken over the lead of the Tour de Langkawi after stage eight in Jasin.
The stage was won by Robbie Forster (UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling) in a sprint finish but Monsalve picked up time bonuses in the intermediate sprints to move two seconds ahead of previous yellow jersey holder Libardo Nino Corredo (Le Tua Cycling Team).
“I must thank my team for the good work that has been done since the beginning of the stage,” said Monsalve.
“At the first hotspot sprint I managed to finish second and got two seconds bonus that made me on equal time with Libardo. The team worked hard again to take me to the second hotspot sprint and as I was second there, I got another two seconds and I’m the leader of Le Tour de Langkawi."
Forster was also a happy man after picking up the stage win: "This is my first win of the season and it’s a great feeling,” he said after the stage that was raced in rainy conditions.
The 10-stage race concludes in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
