The Open - Clarke splits from Open-winning caddie
Darren Clarke has parted company with the caddie that helped him win his first Major championship at The Open at Sandwich last July.
ISM, the player's management team, told Reuters that Clarke's split with John Mulrooney was amicable and had come after he missed the cut at the Abu Dhabi Championship on Friday.
The 43-year-old Northern Irishman will keep his options open on a replacement bagman as he practises over the next three weeks ahead of his return to competitive golf at the WGC-Accenture Match Play in Arizona on February 22, said ISM.
Mulrooney took over as Clarke's full-time caddie after the former Ryder Cup player won the Iberdrola Open in Majorca in May.
Clarke has been out of sorts since his victory at Sandwich, his best result a 20th-place finish at the Volvo Golf Champions tournament in South Africa two weeks ago.
He slumped to rounds of 72 and 81 at the European Tour event in Abu Dhabi.

Darren took his chance well, he plays well in british weather, rain and wind, most other players fall apart. but hey! he's 43 it's time to relax....
Nobody's blaming anybody, caddies are over rated, get a new caddy every tournament who knows the course well.
This doesn't take a lot of working out. The top bag-men want to work for the regular big-cheque players. If John Mulroony wants to make as much money as he can from carrying the bag, then he has to be readily available to do so, and let's face it as nice a bloke as Darren is, he hasn't been filling the coffers too much recently (apart from the Open of course)
i dont see why all you people are having a go at the bagman or dc dc pays his wages so thats it perhaps hwe now needs a caddie that will put him back on track stronger personalilty required
Apparantly it was the caddie that requested the change..so all you people critisising Clarke, get your facts right
blame the caddy when your game goes bad
Now ther's loyalty for you.I go rubbish so it's YOUR fault!
it isnt the caddy hitting poor shots its darren who has still got his brain at last years british open and not on the job of improving his game to compete at the highest level i wonder what he is doing off the course that he shouldnt be doing
Clarke's a top nice guy. This kind of stuff should be normal. But they never accept anything "normal" from Tiger, even if he stayed with Stevie 12 years... But there's great news: the haters are leaving the building.
Nice 'cast' Dave :)
Bumboys.
@Morty No its totally different. Simple answer NO.
ok now everyone should be killing him like they did Tiger when he changed caddies, right?
