Premier League - Bolton rebuff Davies enquiry

Bolton manager Owen Coyle has said he is determined to keep Kevin Davies at the club despite interest from Sunderland.

2011-12 Premier League Bolton Wanderers Kevin Davies - 0

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill confirmed his interest in Bolton striker Kevin Davies on Sunday, saying: "I did make an enquiry and Owen would obviously want to try to keep him. I may well follow that up."

However, Coyle said he had rejected the enquiry and would not welcome a bid from Sunderland.

He said: "There was no offer made. He wanted to know the situation and I told him quite clearly, I didn't want Kevin Davies going anywhere.

"I'm not encouraging anything for Kevin Davies, because we want him here as the captain.

"It (a bid) won't change my outlook. I want Kevin Davies here, regardless of what offer is made.

"The only thing that would change that circumstance is if Kevin Davies said to me 'gaffer, I think I want to look at that' - then that is different, because I have to understand Kevin's feelings on that.

"But he is our captain, he has been a huge part of Bolton Wanderers and he will continue to be."

  8. Tony: "O'Neill isn't respected in the game".

Let's just pause a minute and give that one a bit of thought...

I didn't want Pardew, I didn't want Ba, I'd never heard of Cabaye so I didn't really want him either.
All three have done a good job so all I'll say to your remark is this -
    I don't want Carroll back.

From Tony, on Tue 31 Jan 5:36
  10. Oneill has no pulling power, he just isn't respected in the game. Professional footballers know that winning trophies at Celtic counts for nothing, and they've all seen the balls up he made of the villa job.
Oneill is no better than Steve Kean. FACT.

  11. Tony: I think the Demba B(ad knees) / Bad Lad swap is looking odds on.

From Margaret Rutherford, on Tue 31 Jan 5:29
  12. Malcolm: people said the same about Demba Ba(d knees) and West Ham and now look... he's off to Liverpool!

  13. I think the leprechaun needs to up his game, although Davies would suit Sunderloaneds hoof it - long ball tactics I think he needs to meet the supporters expectations and go for Lionel Messi.

  14. I can't see Davies wanting to make the step down, he's better off at Bolton.

If he is that good then why are Bolton W where they are ???? Sorry cant agree with anyone about this guy, he's not that good and if he was he wouldnt be at Bolton. We dont just want a target man we want somone to score goals on a regular basis !!!! fact.

  16. Prince: my view (for what it's worth) is that Wickham, Campbell & Ji desperately need someone like Kevin Davies (a seasoned striker) to learn from. Even if he just ended up playing a handful of games for SAFC I think his presence at the club alone would justify paying £1m or so for him.

  17. He tore NUFC apart in the 5-1 win just last season.
It is only just over a year since he played for England.
My feeling is he would be a good addition for a year or so but no more.
Talk of over 1.5 million is a bit too much.
We could by a couple of good young uns for that and take a chance on them.
How much is Rhodes at Huddersfield?
He has 27 goals this season.....got to be worth a punt!

  18. Kev needs to be used as a target man, not wide on the right like he's been playing. He wins headers and holds the ball up.

  19. Come on Owen give Davo another contract, other teams want him because they know he can do a good job for them, and he been a loyal player for us and as always givern 100% at all games.Dont give him away oterwise you might regret it. COME YOU WHITES.
