Keith Andrews' second-half penalty and Sean O'Hanlon's header sealed MK Dons' 2-0 win over Grimsby Town in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final.Dons skipper Andrews had missed two good chances to break the deadlock but kept his cool to steer in from the spot before O'Hanlon thumped a late header in to seal the Wembley win.
Ince's men were the better side throughout but counterpart Alan Buckley was left to rue a penalty of his own when Danny Boshell's first-half effort was saved by Willy Gueret.
Gueret was instrumental in guiding the Dons to the final when he saved a penalty in the shoot-out win over Swansea in the southern area final and again guessed right to save Boshell's effort.
Ince's side started brightly but were caught out on the break in the 19th minute.
The lively Peter Till dribbled forward and hit a shot which hit O'Hanlon and spun away.
Paul Bolland chased it down and nicked it over Gueret who brought him down. Referee Phil Joslin pointed to the spot after his linesman flagged.
Boshell struck the kick firmly but Gueret dived to his left to palm the ball to safety.
Buckley made a change at the break, replacing Danny North with Peter Bore but it was the Dons who went close to opening the score in the 49th minute.
Dean Lewington's low cross was only half cleared to the edge of the box but Colin Cameron sliced his effort well wide.
Andrews then spurned a glorious chance when Cameron flicked a clever chip over the defence but he smashed his shot straight at Phil Barnes.
Ince's men were cutting through at will and another fine move saw Lewington stand up a cross to the penalty spot where Andrews arrived to plant a low header on goal, but again Barnes was well placed to make the save.
Jude Stirling then whipped in a cross from the right which Jemal Johnson could only head over as the Dons laid siege to the Grimsby goal.
The breakthrough finally came in the 73rd minute with the second penalty of the afternoon.
Cameron found space on the left-hand side of the area and sent in a superb strike which left Barnes rooted to the spot but hit the far post.
O'Hanlon reacted first but his side-footed effort was tipped onto the post by the recovering Barnes.
But the linesman had raised his flag to award a penalty for a push on Danny Swailes by Nick Hegarty.
Andrews stepped up to place the ball in exactly the same spot as Boshell but crucially sent Barnes the wrong way for his 13th goal of the season.
And Barnes was again helpless in the 81st minute when Cameron's inswinging corner was met inside the six-yard box by O'Hanlon with a powerful header which went in off defender Rob Atkinson.
The Dons comfortably closed out the win and will now turn their attention toward securing the League Two title and completing a memorable first season at their new stadium.
