Brentford manager Andy Scott admitted defeat in his side's bid to launch a late play-off charge after suffering a late 2-0 defeat to Rochdale.Strikes from former Bees striker Lee Thorpe and Adam Rundle left the Bees eight points adrift of seventh-placed Chesterfield, while Dale moved just a point off the Sprireites.
The result was tough on a Brentford side which made all the running and went close on a number of occasions without making the vital breakthrough.
"That was all that separated the sides. They had chances from some good final balls in the last third. They took theirs and we didn't get enough decent supply to our front men after the break," admitted Scott.
"But it was a very good game of football and although I am not satisfied because I hate losing, we will certainly play a lot worse than that and win.
"We will continue to keep pushing to finish the season as high as we can but it may be that either myself of my assistant Terry Bullivant will be missing from a first-team game in the weeks ahead as we cast our net."
