Ward aims to shoot down Swans

Sun 30 Mar, 03:30 PM

Manager John Ward insists Carlisle will fight Swansea to the death in the title race after extending their unbeaten run to 13 at Gillingham.Ward's troops haven't tasted defeat since losing to Oldham January but saw Roberto Martinez's men extended their lead at the top to seven points after a 3-1 win over Hartlepool.

Ward, though, was happy enough with a point.

"I'm trying to chase Swansea and that's what I'm saying to the lads," he said.

"We have dug in and put on a show which shows that we are determined to stay in the race. It is really down to three clubs for those two places now and we're trying to get hold of Swansea if we can.

"It was very up and at them from Gillingham and there were high balls coming into our box, but we defended very strongly. In the last five minutes their manager was telling them to calm down and slow down - he was taking the point and we are more than happy to take a point back to Cumbria."
