Wilson blasts 'awful' penalty call

Sun 30 Mar, 03:30 PM

Hartlepool manager Danny Wilson was in strong disagreement with the penalty decision that set Swansea on the road to a 3-1 victory over Pools. With the score at 1-1 on the stroke of half-time, official Lee Probert pointed to the spot following what appeared to be a good challenge from Ben Clark on Jason Scotland.

The Swansea striker dusted himself down to score from 12-yards and notch his 29th goal of the season.

Wilson said: "The referee has got to stand up and be counted and admit that he got an important decision wrong. He got it awfully wrong because there was nothing wrong with the tackle.

"The penalty decision took the wind out of our sails at a time when the game could have gone either way. It gave us a mountain to climb and you just can't do anything about decisions like that when they go against you."

Wilson praised his players for the way they responded to the perceived injustice of the penalty awarded against them. He said: "Our performance in the circumstances was magnificent and I have nothing but praise for our players. I was delighted with the effort and application."
