Smith Hopes For End To Brad Luck

Sun 30 Mar, 12:13 AM

Bradley Smith hopes to make up for the disappointment of Qatar when he lines up for his second pole position of the season in Spain on Sunday.

A broken steering damper at the Losail circuit saw Smith drift back from leading the 125cc race to finishing 16th and out of the points in the opening round of the series.

But the Polaris World Aprilia rider will line up for his second successive pole of the campaign on Sunday at the Jerez circuit.

And Smith is determined to make the most of his pace around the Spanish track to get his world title challenge back on track.

"I was waiting so long for the first pole and then two come along at once," said Smith after his best lap of one minute 47.587 seconds..

"I was struggling a bit all weekend and then we just put it all back to what we knew.

"Tomorrow is going to be difficult. We are struggling with the rear tyre."

He added on Eurosport: "Hopefully we can get a good enough setting for tomorrow. I had a good rhythm in Qatar and I hope to have the same here."

Smith's fellow Britons Scott Redding and Danny Webb were both in the top-10 places in qualifying, with Redding eighth on the Blusens Aprilia and Webb ninth on the Degraaf Aprilia.

Pole position in the MotoGP race went to Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo on the Fiat Yamaha ahead of the Repsol Honda of countryman Dani Pedrosa and the Tech 3 Yamaha of Colin Edwards.

Lorenzo's team-mate Valentino Rossi was fifth, two places ahead of championship leader and reigning world champion Casey Stoner who was finding the going difficult on his Marlboro Ducati.

Britain's James Toseland was eighth fastest on the Tech 3 Yamaha despite suffering from bronchitis.
