Norwich skipper Mark Fotheringham has assured the club's supporters that he wants to pen a new contract at Carrow Road as soon as possible. The 24-year-old struggled with an ankle injury at the start of the season and his current deal expires in the summer.
However, after helping the club secure their place in the Championship, the Scot is hoping he has done enough to earn himself a new deal.
"I look to be here next season and wear the strip but it's not up to me, it's up to the club and the agent to sort out the contract," he told the Norwich Evening News.
"In terms of myself, I want to be here, so I hope they can get it done as soon as possible.
"We'll obviously find out what's happening in the next couple of weeks, with who's staying and all that. But this club's a huge club and it should be challenging for the Premier League next season."
Meanwhile Fotheringham is convinced that his side could have given all the promotion contenders in the Championship a run for their money.
The Canaries only secured their safety after their third victory in four games over Queen's Park Rangers - which left them 13 points adrift of the top six.
Fotheringham still believes they would have been a match for whoever goes into the end-of-season promotion race.
He said: "We've always believed that on our day we can beat any team in the league.
"The most disappointing thing for me is going to be when we're watching the play-offs because we know we can more than match the teams who are in that situation and that is where we want to be, the Premier League."
