Crewe first-team coach Steve Holland has called on his team to help share the goalscoring burden with free-scoring striker Nicky Maynard. The Alex take on Oldham on Saturday needing only a draw to guarantee they will be playing League One football next term.
The Railwaymen have heavily relied on the goals of Maynard, who has netted eight times in the last 11 games, but Holland admits it is unfair for them to rely solely on the prolific youngster to dig them out of trouble.
He told the club's official website: "I think everyone can see the contribution Nicky has made over the last few months. Eleven goals in his last eight games is an outstanding return for any striker. His goals have been huge, especially with the situation we have found ourselves in since Christmas.
"We cannot totally rely on Nicky though. We need for others to come through and provide a goal threat on Saturday.
"We cannot expect Nick to be scoring in every game he plays in, so the challenge is there for someone else to step up and perhaps score the goal we will need."
